Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Citizen Journalism Platform?

Citizen Journalism Platform is a community-driven local news platform where everyday people can submit news from their communities. All submissions are reviewed before publication.

Who can submit local news?

Anyone can register as a Reporter. No journalism background is required — only accurate, fair, and responsible reporting.

How are submissions reviewed?

All reports are reviewed by Moderators before publication using editorial guidelines.

What is the main approval criterion?

Newsworthiness

Newsworthiness is defined by how many people in the community may be affected by the reported information.

  • The more people potentially affected, the higher the newsworthiness.
  • Community-wide impact is prioritized over personal or isolated issues.

What other criteria are used?

Submissions may be approved or rejected based on:

  • Privacy: No unnecessary personal or sensitive information
  • Accuracy: No rumours, speculation, or misleading claims
  • Appropriateness: No graphic, abusive, or explicit content
  • Hate speech: No discrimination, harassment, or incitement
  • Legal compliance: Must comply with Canadian laws and local bylaws
  • Originality: No plagiarism or copied content

Can my submission be edited?

Yes. Submissions may be lightly edited for clarity, accuracy, or policy compliance.

Why was my submission rejected?

Common reasons include:

  • Low newsworthiness
  • Privacy or legal concerns
  • Inappropriate or promotional content
  • Insufficient verification

Rejection does not prevent future submissions.

Do reporters and moderators get paid?

During the prototype stage, participants earn platform credits only.

  • Credits have no monetary value
  • Credits cannot be redeemed or exchanged for cash
  • Compensation models may change in future versions

Is this the final version of the platform?

No. This is a prototype / MVP. Features, policies, and incentives are subject to change.

Can I submit photos or videos?

Yes, if they are original, respect privacy, and do not infringe copyright.

How do I become a moderator?

Moderators register separately and may require approval.

How can I contact the platform?

Use the Contact page for general inquiries or feedback.
Use Submit a Story for news submissions.

Does participating as a reporter or moderator create an employment relationship?

No. Reporters and moderators are not employees, contractors, or agents of Citizen Journalism Platform. Participation does not constitute employment and does not involve wages, salary, or compensation of any kind.
